Wānanalua Congregational Church
Wānanalua is the oldest church in east Maui founded in 1838 as the church of “second prophecy,” the name of a Hāna ahupuaʻa, or traditional land division.
The original pili grass structure was located near Hāna Bay. In 1842, the construction of the current structure was begun by dedicated members over a twenty year period. The church is built of volcanic rock held together with a cement of pulverized coral.
We are a proudly Hawaiian church and part of our service is conducted in the Hawaiian language. There is no need to know Hawaiian to experience this beautiful service with welcoming members.
